Opportunities at WheelieQueer

There are different ways to contribute to WheelieQueer's work.

Our opportunities span specialist welfare benefits advice and representation, training, consultancy, governance and organisational support.

We work with employees, freelance professionals and volunteers, depending on the role. Each opportunity has its own responsibilities, requirements and arrangements.

We value people who are thoughtful, dependable, open-minded and willing to challenge established ways of working.

Different roles call for different skills and experiences. Whether your background is in welfare benefits, disability rights, training, finance, HR, safeguarding or governance, we're interested in what you can contribute.

We don't expect everyone to arrive with the same qualifications or professional background. Relevant lived experience, transferable skills and a willingness to learn can be just as valuable, depending on the role.

We particularly welcome applications from people underrepresented in leadership and decision-making, including Deaf and disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, and people from Black, Asian and other ethnically marginalised communities.

Who We're Looking For

Recruitment Without Barriers

We want our recruitment process to be accessible, flexible and fair, so applicants have a genuine opportunity to demonstrate what they can bring.

Depending on individual needs, adjustments can include:

  • Applications in written English or BSL video.

  • BSL interpreters for interviews and meetings.

  • Remote interviews and flexible arrangements.

  • Interview questions or relevant information provided in advance, where appropriate.

  • Accessible documents, captions and written communication.

  • Other reasonable adjustments agreed individually.

We recognise that people communicate and demonstrate their skills in different ways.

If you need an adjustment or would prefer an alternative application format, please email jasper@wheeliequeer.net.

We're a small, growing organisation where people's contributions matter.

We encourage open communication, constructive challenge and shared responsibility. We want people to feel comfortable asking questions, suggesting improvements and speaking up when something isn't working.

Our approach is built on mutual respect, professional integrity and trust. We believe people do their best work when their expertise is valued, their contributions are recognised and they're supported to work effectively.

As we grow, we want to preserve that collaborative approach while developing clear, accountable and sustainable ways of working.
